What an export lot comes with.

Built around the failure importers worry about most: a container that does not match the sample.

  • One size per lot

Fox nuts graded by kernel diameter and never blended. Mixing lower grades into higher ones is a documented cause of rejections in importing countries.

  • Certificate of analysis before loading

Issued before dispatch, never after, with a QR code that opens the lot’s verification page.

  • Nitrogen-flushed export packing

One grade per pack, with the lot ID on every bag. The pack format is confirmed in writing with the quote.

  • Traceable to the pond cluster

Each lot is recorded from the pond cluster through popping and grading to dispatch.

  • A capped guarantee

A lab-tested lot that misses the written specification is replaced or credited at invoice value, on written terms.

Questions importers ask before a first container.

Why FOB and not CIF?

Popped makhana is light and bulky: a 40 ft high-cube container holds only about 4 tonnes. Freight is charged on volume, so we quote FOB and you book the freight through your own forwarder, on your own terms.

Which HS code is makhana exported under?

APEDA’s monthly makhana dashboard (May 2026) lists India’s export codes as 20081921 for popped makhana, 20081922 for makhana flour and powder, and 20081929 for other makhana preparations. Your import tariff line depends on your country’s schedule, so confirm it with your customs broker.

Can you ship to the European Union?

The EU authorised roasted and popped Euryale ferox kernels as a traditional food in 2023, with limits on pesticides, aflatoxins, acrylamide and microcystins. EU destinations are quoted only after the lot has been tested against those limits.

How are payment and documents handled?

Payment is by letter of credit, or 50/50 against documents. Which documents travel with the lot, and who issues each one, is confirmed in writing before any purchase order.

Is this the same product sold as lotus seeds?

Yes. Fox nuts are the popped seeds of Euryale ferox, sold in many markets under the trade name “lotus seeds” and in India as makhana or phool makhana. Specify by kernel size rather than by name.

Can we check the product before ordering a full lot?

Start with a sample kit of the grades you are considering, then a paid pilot lot of 100–300 kg through your own incoming QC. Full lots of 500 kg to 2 MT follow once the specification is agreed.
