Makhana sourced from Mithila.
Makhana is the popped seed of Euryale ferox, a water plant. In Darbhanga and Madhubani it grows in ponds four to six feet deep, and trained divers gather the seed from the pond bed between August and October.
Roasting, popping and hand-sorting the seed is skilled, traditional work in Mithila. Every processing agreement we sign carries a social-compliance clause.
About Mithila makhana
Questions buyers ask first.
Is makhana the same as fox nut?
Yes. Makhana, fox nut and phool makhana are trade names for the popped seed of Euryale ferox, a water plant.
Which grade should I choose?
Choose by kernel size and use: 4 suta (12–15 mm) for seasoning and cooking, 5 suta for everyday snack packs, 6 suta for retail and private label, and 7 suta for large-kernel packs. A sample kit lets you check the size on your own line.
Do you supply importers outside India?
Yes, on FOB terms only, paid by LC or 50/50 against documents, in nitrogen-flushed export packing. EU destinations are quoted after lot testing. These are standard terms, confirmed in writing with every quote.
Can I see the product before a full lot?
Yes. Start with a sample kit of the grades you want to test, or a paid pilot lot of 100–300 kg. Regular lots run from 500 kg to 2 MT.
How is quality checked before dispatch?
Each lot is sized by calliper and sieve on a 500 g draw, moisture is read at intake and again at dispatch, and the certificate of analysis is issued with a QR code before the lot leaves.
Where does your makhana come from?
Darbhanga and Madhubani in Mithila, north Bihar. Every lot is recorded from the pond cluster to dispatch.
Do you sell retail packs?
No. We supply businesses in trade quantities, starting from a 100 kg trial lot. We do not sell retail packs to consumers.
How is makhana priced?
By grade, quantity and dispatch date. Rates move with the season, so we quote in writing for your requirement rather than publish a list.
